The UK review embargo has now lifted and a number of UK magazines have published their reviews of the new Megane Electric. I've round up what I can find below but its all sounding very positive:

Auto Express:
What impresses most about the new all-electric Megane is its ability to combine characters: it’s either fun and playful or comfortable and relaxing. We like the way it looks, we like the interior and we like the tech. Space in the back is a little disappointing, but with the right pricing and specification this could be a Megane that really gives its VW equivalent a run for its money

Auto Car:
Overall, we like the Mégane E-Tech Electric a lot. It succeeds in offering a bit of sparkle and interest for the enthusiast who wants to relish a good road but also to go electric at a reasonable price. It doesn’t feel as airy inside as the ID 3, but it looks great, can raise a grin in corners, has vastly better infotainment than most alternatives and is efficient even if you can’t be bothered with using Eco driving mode and wearing your range-extending thermal undercrackers on winter commutes.

If pricing starts not too far north of £30,000 for the small-battery model as expected, Renault is onto a winner.

Driving Electric:
Based on this first impression, it should be a strong addition to the now very competitive family electric-car class. While it won't beat the likes of the Skoda Enyaq iV for sheer practicality, its appealing mixture of driving enjoyment, comfort, smart styling and user-friendly technology could win it a lot of fans.

Top Gear Magazine:
“A desirable family hatch that just happens to be electric. Fantastic interior, too.”
This Renault is fun to drive, so you might be tempted into range-blunting speeds that negate the car's clever efficiency measures. Go sensibly though and the range compromise is enough for most.

Possibly the back seat space is tight for a leggy family. But for those, Renault will no doubt have other longer (and longer-range) derivatives before many years have passed. That's just standard practice in this business.

As for the non-electric parts of it, the Megane is conventionally desirable and has a handsome, well-finished and easy-to-use cabin.

The Megane is a car for people who know and like 'normal' cars. You'll find little of the bare design or eccentricity that mark out the VW ID3 or i3 or Leaf as 'pioneers'.

Car Magazine:
Modern, through and through then. Just what you'd expect from an entire reinvention of a car we've known for some time, though the exitsing petrol and hybrid Meganes will continue to be sold until 2024.

The Megane Electric is smooth-riding, sharp-looking and its interior is up there with the best in class. Pretty engaging, too, but not quite the electric GTI Renault's was promising. How about a Renault Sport version, Luca?
